Iran Ready for War if Provoked by US, Warns Foreign Minister Araghchi

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that Tehran is fully prepared for war if the United States chooses to “test” Iran, escalating rhetoric amid rising regional and global tensions.

Speaking amid growing uncertainty over US-Iran relations, Araghchi said Iran does not seek conflict but will respond decisively to any military provocation or aggressive action. He stressed that Iran’s defensive and strategic capabilities are fully operational and ready if deterrence fails.

“Iran has no interest in war, but we are not afraid of it,” Araghchi was quoted as saying, adding that any miscalculation by Washington would be met with a strong response.

The remarks come as tensions remain high over Iran’s nuclear programme, US sanctions, and conflicts across the Middle East, including Gaza and Red Sea shipping routes. Diplomatic efforts to revive stalled negotiations have shown little progress, while military posturing has intensified on both sides.

Analysts say Araghchi’s warning reflects Iran’s broader strategy of deterrence, aimed at discouraging direct confrontation while signalling readiness to defend national sovereignty. The statement also underscores Tehran’s concerns over possible US or allied military actions in the region.

Washington has repeatedly stated that it does not seek war with Iran, but US officials have also warned against threats to regional stability and international security. The latest exchange highlights the fragile state of diplomacy between the two longtime adversaries.

Observers warn that any escalation between Iran and the United States could have serious consequences for the Middle East and global energy markets, further destabilising an already volatile region.
