One Dead and 300 Buildings Destroyed as Bushfires Ravage South-East Australia

At least one person has been killed and more than 300 buildings destroyed as devastating bushfires continue to sweep across south-east Australia, authorities have confirmed.

The fires have been burning for several days across dozens of locations, primarily in the state of Victoria, with additional outbreaks reported in New South Wales. Officials estimate the fires have already scorched land nearly twice the size of Greater London, highlighting the scale of the disaster.

A state of emergency has been declared in Victoria as thousands of firefighters, supported by more than 70 aircraft, battle to contain the rapidly spreading blazes. Residents in over a dozen communities have been urged to evacuate as fire fronts advance under extreme conditions.

Emergency services warn that the fires are being fuelled by intense heat, dry vegetation and strong winds, creating highly volatile conditions. Authorities fear the bushfires could continue to burn for several weeks, posing ongoing risks to lives, property and wildlife.

Officials have stressed that conditions may worsen and urged residents in affected areas to remain alert and follow evacuation advice as the crisis unfolds.
