Pathum Nissanka Breaks Record as Sri Lanka’s Leading T20 Run Scorer

Surpasses Kusal Mendis while shining in T20 World Cup

Sri Lankan batsman Pathum Nissanka has set a new national record, becoming the highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka in T20 internationals.

He achieved the milestone during Sri Lanka’s match against Zimbabwe in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, scoring 62 runs.

Nissanka surpassed Kusal Mendis, who previously held the record.

  • Pathum Nissanka: 2,636 runs

Following the match, Nissanka moved ahead to claim the top position.

🌍 World Cup performance

Nissanka has also impressed in the ongoing tournament.

He scored an unbeaten 100 off 52 balls against Australia, including:

  • 5 sixes
  • 10 fours

He became the first player to score a century in this edition of the T20 World Cup.

🏏 Historic achievement

With that century, Nissanka became only the second Sri Lankan to score a hundred in a T20 World Cup.

The first was Mahela Jayawardene.
