A/L Exams Resume Today After Cyclone Disruption in Sri Lanka

The G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examinations are resuming today after being postponed due to the widespread disruption caused by Cyclone Ditwah, the Department of Examinations has announced. The remaining subjects of the 2025 A/L exams will now be conducted under a revised timetable running from January 12 to January 20, 2026.

Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage stated that all necessary preparations have been completed and that the exams will be held at 2,086 examination centres islandwide, with 325 coordination centres and 32 regional collection centres in operation to ensure smooth conduct.

Special arrangements have been introduced for candidates affected by the cyclone. Students who have lost their National Identity Cards or cannot present valid ID due to the disaster may sit for the exams by producing two certified passport‑size photographs with appropriate verification from school principals or local authorities.

The Department of Examinations has also allowed affected students who cannot reach their designated centre because of ongoing weather and transport challenges to sit for exams at the nearest available centre, provided they notify authorities through their principals or appropriate officials.

Authorities have urged candidates to arrive at their exam centres early and to follow all instructions, including strict bans on mobile phones, smart watches and other electronic devices within examination halls.
