Colombo, Sri Lanka — Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr. Harini Amaraseuriya, has said she is ready to leave her post if the people decide that a change in leadership is needed. She made the remarks today when she attended a parliamentary debate soon after returning from the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Dr. Harini told parliament that if the public feels the prime minister should be changed, she and her team are prepared to “go home.” She referred to recent political developments and said that although motions of no confidence were discussed, she wanted to hear directly what people want before making any decisions.
Speaking on the parliamentary floor, she acknowledged the pressure of political expectations and emphasized that her responsibility, like all leaders, is to serve the nation. She added that she is watching the situation and, if it becomes clear that change is needed, she and her allies stand ready to step aside.
Dr. Harini’s comments come at a time of political debate in Sri Lanka over leadership and governance, with various voices calling for new approaches amid ongoing challenges. Her statement has drawn attention from political analysts and party leaders as an important signal about possible shifts in the country’s leadership landscape.
