New Zealand Under-85kg Rugby Team Arriving This Wednesday: Two-Match Series Against Sri Lanka

Bringing the flair of New Zealand rugby back to Sri Lankan soil, the New Zealand National Under-85kg (U85kg) rugby squad is scheduled to arrive in the island this Wednesday (April 22).

Match Schedule:

  • First Match: Saturday, April 25, at the Colombo Racecourse Grounds.
  • Second Match: Sunday, May 3, at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium in Kandy.

Why This Matters: The New Zealand U85kg category, often referred to as “weight-restricted rugby,” is renowned for its immense speed, tactical prowess, and high skill levels. This series provides an exceptional opportunity for Sri Lankan players to compete against the Kiwi style of play. Organizers anticipate that the tour will not only boost the profile of Sri Lankan rugby but also contribute to the country’s sports tourism, drawing fans to both the capital and the hill country.

As New Zealand remains a global powerhouse in rugby, this clash is expected to be a highlight of the local 2026 sporting calendar.
