Change in Weather from Today. Afternoon Thundershowers Expected Across Many Provinces

The Department of Meteorology has announced that atmospheric conditions have become favorable for afternoon thundershowers over most parts of the island starting today (April 20).

Key Forecast Highlights:

  • Rainfall Distribution: Showers or thundershowers are likely in several places within the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, North-western, North-central, and Southern provinces after 1:00 PM.
  • Heavy Showers: Fairly heavy rainfall of about 50 mm is expected at some locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
  • Misty Conditions: Misty conditions may occur during the early hours of the morning in parts of the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, and the Galle and Matara districts.

Safety Precautions: The Department urges the general public to take necessary precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. In other parts of the island, mainly dry weather will prevail.
